A hero comes home - Spc Gabe Conde arrives in Colorado

The body of a soldier killed in Afghanistan will be returned to Colorado Friday.

Conde, 22, died in the line of duty April 30 of injuries sustained from small arms fire while serving in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel in Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, according to a press release.

His body arrived at Northern Colorado Regional Airport in Loveland on Friday, followed by a procession to Longmont.

People lined the streets to pay their respects as the procession traveled south.

His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lifebridge Christian Church in Longmont. He will be buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver in a private ceremony Monday.

In an obituary posted online, Conde's family said he was "fiercely loved" by many people.
