Man City's Aguero confirms knee surgery

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has challenged the Premier League champions to keep their foot on the accelerator and win their remaining five games of the season.

"Aguero visited Dr Cugat last Thursday and they decided yesterday that the surgery in his meniscus was the best option".

Having seen City win the Premier League with five games to spare at the weekend, the 29-year-old chose to have the operation immediately in order to give him enough time to recover ahead of the tournament.

Aguero (pictured), City's top scorer with 30 goals, said: 'This is my third title with City and it's just a relief not to have to wait to the final day this time!

The player tweeted on Tuesday afternoon: "Recovering from an arthroscopy on my knee". He returned as a substitute for the 3-2 loss to Manchester United on April 7 and also came on during the second half in the second leg of City's Champions League quarterfinal against Liverpool three days later.

"Fully motivated to get back soon to the field".

"He will play the World Cup without problems", a report in Argentina claimed.

Argentina's first match of the tournament is against Iceland on June 16.

City wrapped up their title run on Sunday following United's loss to West Brom and a previous victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
