Evan Rachel Wood Confirms She 'Just Now' Getting Equal Pay on 'Westworld'

The Netflix Original series, The Crown was hampered by criticism earlier this year when it was revealed Matt Smith was paid more for his work as Prince Philip on the first two seasons than his on-screen wife, Queen Elizabeth, played by Claire Foy.

"I think I'm just now to the point where I'm getting paid the same as my male co-stars", she said-describing how she'll now receive the same check as Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris. "I was just told that, you know, 'Hey you're, you're getting equal pay.' And I nearly got emotional". I was like, 'I have never been paid the same as my male counterparts.

When asked which season she would be getting equal pay to her male co-stars, Wood confirmed Season 3. Her male costars Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris are Oscar-nominated so she assumed that was why there was a pay gap.

Evan Rachel Wood is arguably the face of "Westworld". While in her case it sounds like Wood's pay bump was more of a welcome surprise than the result of a drawn-out fight, her willingness to open up about the disparity and how she felt when it was corrected adds and another important voice to an ongoing conversation. "I'm very lucky. It's more about if you're getting paid fairly, or the same, or if you're getting paid less simply because you're a woman, that's not fair", Wood said. There is a lot of trying to make things equal and trying to make things fair. But this is the first time that somebody made a point of being like, 'Hey you're getting this. She's just a darn good actress and without her presence on Westworld, it wouldn't have the same effect on viewers.

"Westworld" Season 2 debuts on HBO this Sunday, April 22. According to The Wrap, HBO declined to comment on Wood's remarks.
