Sindhu defeated Chochuwong to move to the 2nd round.

Chochuwong was close enough with Sindhu in the first and second round of the game, but in the third, Sindhu picked up her pace, thus leaving Chochuwong in jitters and positioning her win in the game.

Srikanth was no match for Leverdez in the first game as he failed to execute his strokes properly with most going wide and long. He carried on with his good work and forced the match into the decider by winning the second game 21-14. Saina managed to level 10-10 with a precise cross court return from the back of the court but Tai Tzu went into the break with a slender one- point lead. She went into the break with three-point advantage at 11-8.

With the Taiwanese sending the shuttle to the net on four occasions on the trot, Saina managed to lead 16-11. In the doubles match, Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy beat Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge, 22-20 21-12, to progress to the next round. Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy registered the straight games 21-19, 21-13 victory over Marvin Emil Seidel and Linda Efler of Germany in the mixed doubles first round.
