Police in Gratiot County Seek Help Identifying Body Found in Garbage Bag

McCollum says rabbit hunters found the man Sunday in a ditch in Seville Township, about 105 miles northwest of Detroit.

They cut the bag open and found a human body in the bag and immediately called 911. Sheriff Doug Wright tells the Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant the death is being investigated as a homicide.

Authorities in Gratiot County have released photos of a corpse's tattoos in the hopes of identifying their owner, a man who was found dead in a garbage bag.

Officials have not said how they think the man was killed.

A Gratiot detective and lieutenant attended an autopsy in Lansing Monday on the body found west of Alma by hunters on Sunday morning.

A tattoo of an eagle is on his right shoulder and a tattoo of a skull wearing a cowboy hat and handkerchief is on his left shoulder.

The autopsy revealed that the man was 60 to 70 year old, stood 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighed 185 pounds and had thinning medium-length brown/grey hair. The skull is bordered by the names of the states Texas, Florida, and MI as well as chain links.

Authorities say it looked like he had a recent injury to a finger or fingers on his left hand, as the middle and ring finger were taped together.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for help identifying the body and anyone with information is asked to call 989.875.5214.
