Missing Indiana woman found dead in Ogle County

A West Lafayette, Indiana woman reported missing on Monday evening has been found dead.

OGLE COUNTY, Ill. - The wife of a Purdue professor was found dead at a landfill in Rockford, Illinois early Tuesday morning. The couple's vehicle was also located at the nearby Orchard Hills Landfill.

The couple had been driving to a nearby airport and became disoriented, and Ei-Ichi Negishi crashed their auto into a ditch, according to WTHR television.

Police discovered Ei-ichi Negishi walking in the area, and his wife was found dead near their vehicle.

Police would not confirm details about the incident, but did not suspect foul play.

The local coroner's office said an autopsy was pending. Police took him to an area hospital, where they found he had been reported missing to Indiana State Police the night before.

Negishi is a Japanese national who came to the U.S. on a Fulbright scholarship in 1960 to study chemistry. He has been with Purdue for more than 30 years and received a Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2010.
