Donations to the scholarship fund can be made online at www.colts.com/memorial or by mail at the Edwin Jackson Memorial Scholarship, c/o Indianapolis Colts Foundation, P.O. Box 535000, Indianapolis, IN 46253.

"Edwin was such a wonderful young man and was beloved by his family and friends across the country, especially by his Colts family here in Indianapolis", Irsay said.

Indianapolis Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay donated $25,000 to jumpstart the Edwin Jackson Memorial Scholarship as a tribute to the late linebacker, the team announced Monday. The Colts will work with the Jackson family in the upcoming months to establish the scholarship and determine its guidelines. "We are all better people for having known him, and we already miss him so much".

The scholarship will be given annually to qualified students who apply for it.

Jackson and ride-share operator Jeffrey Monroe were on the side of Interstate 70 in Indianapolis early on February 4 when Monroe got out of the auto to help Jackson, who was sick. Jackson and Uber driver Jeffery Monroe had pulled off on the side of Interstate 70 when Manuel Orrego-Savala allegedly plowed his Ford F-150 pickup truck through them.

Jackson and Monroe were both pronounced dead at the scene. Irsay also paid for the funerals for Jackson and Jeffrey Monroe, the Uber driver who died in the crash with Jackson. Jackson's memorial service was Monday in his hometown of Atlanta. "Although we didn't know Jeffrey, we've heard nothing but extraordinary things about him, and we are just as heartbroken for his loved ones. May both Edwin and Jeffrey rest in peace".
