Buhari should heed Tinubu's advice and retire - PDP

The opposition party said this in reaction to a comment credited to Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who said ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida, former head of state, should join the retirees club.

Welcoming the Committee to the APC headquarters, the national chairman, Odigie -Oyegun, said the party's leadership will give it's support to the committee to ensure that it succeeds.

There has not been any signal yet that Tinubu and his team have started the onerous task of uniting aggrieved members of the party since their appointment last month.

The Tinubu committee is one of the steps taken by President Muhammadu Buhari to check the feuding crisis in the ruling party that has even kept the national leader away from the secretariat for years.

Speaking on who will work with Mr. Tinubu in his assignment, Mr Abdullahi said: "He has been given the assignment and he will determine how to run it and we have chose to work with him".

"The mass of the electorates are still with us and they will vote for the party again in 2019".

On the friction in the party, he said the solution was to seek opinions and advice of members "on the various complex issues around some states or if there is any national one, to reconcile, move the party in a cohesive manner and reposition if any and build the confidence among ourselves".

National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said after the meeting that it was to strategise on how to go about the assignment given to the national leader, adding that the party had pledged to assist him to succeed.

"It is not easy to have those changes implemented like instant curfew". I sympathise with us and I want us to also look at ourselves (as a party) since we won the last elections that expectation was very high and the goodwill was extremely very high but where are we today? "We have a creed to really serve the country, change and reform the country", Tinubu said.

"We have never govern before, but governed the confidence of Nigerians to govern".

Odigie-Oyegun said, "We have major issues in the National Assembly, we have major issues in Benue State, we have major issues in Kano State, we have major issues in Kogi..."

"In any case, the APC is already on a death throe, having led the worst government in the history of our nation and will end up as the first party in government at the centre that will be rejected by Nigerians at a second attempt".
