'Arrow': Colton Haynes Confirmed To Return To CW/DC Series

But, as fate would have it, Haynes was contracted for but a few seasons, and an exit was plotted for him late in season 3.

Colton Haynes is officially set to reprise his role as Roy Harper a.k.a. Arsenal on The CW's hit series Arrow.

They add about his return, "Roy is called back to Star City to help resolve an urgent matter with high stakes for the team". Roy took the fall as the Hood during the third season when Oliver was being outed as the vigilante - a storyline the show is covering again now in Season 6. He and Thea will reunite, which sparks a change that results in "long-lasting consequences". He then faked his death and left Star City for good to start a new life somewhere else.

Later, in a personal essay, Haynes revealed why he chose to leave the show. Thea has played a much smaller role in the last couple of seasons than she previously had, but it was Holland's choice, according to producers - and fans have long speculated that putting her back together with her on-again, off-again love interest Roy might be the way to write her out without killing anybody. Terrific having left Team Arrow to create their own team following that huge fallout with Oliver, Felicity and Diggle in the midseason finale, I've a feeling the Green Arrow will need all the help he can get.

Hopefully, we'll see the first seeds be planted when Arrow returns with new episodes on Thursday, January 18 on The CW.

Rumors heated up that Haynes might return when star Stephen Amell teased his possible return earlier this week.
