Reese Witherspoon Is Being Sued Over 'Gone Girl'

Reese Witherspoon is being sued for allegedly stealing the idea for the 2014 film Gone Girl, which she produced. They both contain a key twist where the wife is not the nice, normal, and somewhat naive housewife and is in fact a psychopath who sets up her husband.

Leslie Weller has sued Witherspoon, along with Fincher and Flynn, claiming that she wrote a screenplay, titled "Out of the Blue" in 2005, which was stolen and later appeared as a novel and then as a movie, reported TMZ.

In addition to suing Reese, Leslie is also suing the book's author Gillian Flynn, as well as the movie's director David Fincher.

Mentioning similarities, Weller said they both focus on a married couple's relationship where the husband and wife are slowly drifting apart. She says the movie lifts from the book, which lifts from her screenplay. She also says that the book Gone Girl, which was released in 2012 was a rip off of her script.

It's unclear how much the writer is suing Witherspoon for and the Big Little Lies star is yet to comment on the case.
