Plateau PDP Chairman And Former Sports Minister, Sango, Son Kidnapped

Jos-Kidnappers of the former Minister of Sports and Plateau State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairman, Damishi Sango, have reportedly called the family to demand N100 million ransom, the state PDP Publicity Secretary, John Akans, has confirmed.

Although the details of the incident were still sketchy, sources said the victims were abducted on Wednesday along Jere Road, in Kaduna State while on their way to Abuja to attend the convention.

He said, "Yes, our chairman, Chief Damishi Sango, and five other persons, including his son, driver and a chieftain of PDP in Plateau State were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Wednesday evening".

The incident was said to have occured while they were in transit from Jos to Abuja in preparations for the party's national convention.

INDEPENDENT gathered that Governor Simon Lalong had been contacted by the national secretariat of PDP on the Sango issue and urged him to do whatever he could to get an illustrious citizen of his state out of the kidnappers' den.

Mapis, however, said that no one had contacted the family so far. When they discovered that he was a party Chairman, they made such a demand, thinking there is money. It was the security operatives that told the family that their breadwinner had been kidnapped because the auto that was abandoned drew the attention of the security operatives.

However, the Kaduna State Police Command has said special forces had been dispatched to rescue Sango and four others.

The party spokesman disclosed that the jeep belonging to the former minister had been found by security agents with two telephones belonging to his son that was kidnapped along with him.

"They told us that the auto was with them and there was no occupant".
