Kosher Restaurant's Windows Smashed Hours Before Trump's Jerusalem Announcement

A man with a Palestinian flag yelling "God is great" was detained by police in the Netherlands on Thursday after smashing the windows of a kosher Jewish restaurant in Amsterdam.

Video filmed by a bystander shows the man using a piece of wood to smash in the windows of the kosher venue in Willemspark, one of Amsterdam's most affluent neighbourhoods, on Thursday morning. He broke the glass of the door, entered the restaurant and took the flag out and attempted to hit the police officer with it.

Reports from the scene suggest the man attacked the windows of the restaurant with his weapon before being going inside and grabbing the Israeli flag.

As soon as he comes out again, the two police officers spray him with pepper spray and slam him to the ground.

"We are disgusted", the Organization of Jewish Communities in The Netherlands said in a statement.

After the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital sparked anger around the world, an Israeli restaurant owner in Holland, whose restaurant was vandalized, claimed that he still supports president Donald Trump. The attack was "an act of revenge, meant to instill fear, and is no less than an act of terror".

Israel already considers the whole of Jerusalem its capital, while Palestinians want eastern Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestine state.
