Amazon launches Alexa, Echo, and Prime Music in Canada

Amazon has announced that it's finally launching its voice-controlled Echo speakers in Canada.

Echo Dot: $49.99 (regular $69.99).

"Tens of millions of customers are already using Alexa, and today we're excited to bring her to Canada with an experience designed from the ground up for our Canadian customers", said Tom Taylor, Senior Vice President, Amazon Alexa, in an issued statement to iPhone in Canada.

Effective today, all three Alexa-enable devices (Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Plus) are available in this country for pre-order.

Alongside the Echo launch, Amazon is also opening the Alexa Skills Kit and Alexa Voice Service for local developers and hardware makers to create integrations built on Alexa for the Canadian market.

Customers can preorder the Echo devices from Amazon Canada, with shipping set to start on December 5th. Amazon anticipates 10,000 skills will be available for Canadian customers this year, including skills from Air Canada, CBC, the Weather Network, TD Bank, and Bank of Montreal.

Echo devices will also be available via Best Buy, The Source, Staples, TELUS, Bell, Bed Bath & Beyond, and TSC: Today's Shopping Choice in Canada. While it's not the Music Unlimited offering that aims to rival Spotify and Google Play Music, it offers access to 1 million song at no additional cost as long as you're a Prime member.
