NYPD cops shoot man waving gun in public

A police officer shot and critically wounded a man armed with a gun - later determined to be a BB gun - in East Flatbush Thursday night, the NYPD said. Police found the 19-year-old man inside the store, and say he attempted to run when they tried to take him into custody.

Police sources say officers responded to the report of a man with a gun.

Monahan said the suspect continued to flee but was caught inside a nearby building a short time later.

A firearm that was recovered at the scene and was later determined to be a BB gun, Monahan said. He was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

Monahan said police fired one shot, which struck the victim in the leg, but he managed to keep going.

A BB gun that police say was recovered following a police-involved shooting in Brooklyn on October 12, 2017.

The officers were not injured. "They didn't have to shoot him".
