Swedish model 'getting rape threats' for posing for Adidas with hairy legs

Arvida Byström is a model from Sweden and was recently featured in an Adidas campaign to promote the new Superstar sneakers.

A Swedish model has sparked controversy and has even been targeted by rape threats after posing in an Adidas advert with hairy legs.

Receiving rape threats she said: "Me being such an abled, white, cis body with its only nonconforming feature being a lil leg hair. Literally I've been getting rape threats in my DM inbox", she captioned the September 25 post on Instagram.

"Sending love and try to remember that not everybody has the same experiences being a person".

This is not the first time that Bystrom has found herself the target of online abuse and body shaming.

She regularly posts photos proudly displaying her unshaven armpits and legs, in an attempt to question gender standards and the definition of femininity.

One user in particular said: "It is something absurd to say in 2017 but she is so courageous to show natural legs, you go girl!"

Brian said: "As a human being, I'm male in case u can't tell, I don't see the problem w hairy legs".

Another describes her as "another kid screaming for attention on the internet".

Aside from the fact that the ad is drop-dead gorgeous, we are cheering for the body positive message that both Adidas and Byström are sending through her photograph.

"I think that it's very sad that people criticize others about their bodies".

Linonono writes: "You should decide for yourself if you shave or not". "Thank you for being real, you are incredible and lovely".
