Police seek mother of newborn baby found abandoned in London park

Metropolitan Police are desperately looking for the mother of a newborn who was abandoned in an east London park.

Police have launched a desperate search for the baby's mother, after he was found abandoned in Plaistow Park at 8.20am this morning.

Officers and ambulance paramedics answering a call from a passer-by carefully wrapped him in a white blanket and took him to hospital where he is being cared for.

Hospital staff have named the baby Harry.

According to Metro, officers are concerned about the mother's welfare and are urging her to come forward to receive her own medical support.

DCI Jim Foley, who is leading the inquiry, released an appeal directly to the child's mother.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the mother is asked to call police on 020 8217 6498 or via 101.

"It is really important that we know you are safe".

'I would also ask that anyone who has information that could help us to reunite this baby with his mother to come forward'.
