Manchester United 4-0 West Ham: Five Talking Points

Manchester United signed Matic from the Premier League champions for a reported fee of £40million and the Serbian midfielder impressed in his Old Trafford debut on Sunday, as the Red Devils thrashed West Ham 4-0 to top the table at the end of the opening weekend of the new season.

"When you play for Manchester United, you have a job to do and mine is to score goals".

Given their endeavour, West Ham did not deserve to be three goals behind but it got worse in the final minute of normal time as Pogba curled a shot past Hart from 20 yards out. That's not putting pressure on the players or Jose Mourinho, but they have to challenge with the money that has been spent and the players that have been brought in.

"The game was hard, it was open at 2-0 and they had a chance to score".

"Jose Mourinho wants me to be the leader and create as much as I can". But I think the quality of our performance, based on confidence levels was really high.

In Mourinho's first game last season, they won 3-1 at Bournemouth, prompting instant talk of a new era after the disappointing Louis van Gaal reign but consistency did not follow and United finished sixth.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan also had a fine game and, not for the first time, it felt faintly ludicrous that Chelsea have allowed Nemanja Matic to join one of their title rivals.

The Reds took the lead on 33 minutes when Marcus Rashford seized upon a misplaced Pedro Obiang pass, surged at the Hammers defence and provided the ammunition for Lukaku to thunder an effort past Joe Hart, in off the post.

"Zlatan is injured and needs time to recover", Mourinho said on Friday.

"The fact that we won the match was the most important thing".

Mourinho appears serious about his claims having added another centre-back to his ranks without selling any of Smalling, Bailly, Jones, Rojo, meaning the club have 5 first team defenders with possibly Axel Tuanzebe involved as well as the youngster is highly rated by his manager.

Head to head:The Red Devils did not have any troubles with West Ham United previous year as they have won both meetings with the Hammers by at least two goals difference.

"We lost two points against West Ham here [last season] and had lots of similar matches where we dominated but did not score enough goals".

"For me, years and years of experience and experience in the Premier League, my feet are on the ground and I am calm".

"We're going to try to win the title".
