Dennis Smith Jr. Says the Knicks Pressured Him to Eat Octopus

On Saturday, rookie point guard and NC State grad Dennis Smith Jr. further added to the mystery surrounding Phil through the telling of a amusing story from his pre-draft interviews with NY.

Former president of the Knicks and longtime Bulls and Lakers head coach Phil Jackson is known around the National Basketball Association for his non-traditional tactics.

"We went out to some restaurant and they had me eat some octopus", Smith Jr. I wasn't going to try it, honestly.

Phil Jackson's tenure with the New York Knicks didn't go so well, and ended with his resignation in June, just days after the National Basketball Association draft. "They kind of put the pressure on me to do it", Smith Jr. told Stefan Bondy of the Daily News. Smith is probably glad things worked out the way they did.

They obviously ended up drafting Dennis Smith Jr. out of N.C. State, but Smith Jr. had his share of pre-draft visits with other teams also. The Dallas Mavericks selected Smith one pick later at No. 9.

"I definitely thought it was possible", Smith Jr. told The News.
