Golfers seem to give good reviews to US Open at Erin Hills

The champion himself set his sights immediately towards further success on golf's biggest stages.

In fact you have to look down to 17th place on the leaderboard before you find a major victor in South African Louis Oosthuizen, the 2010 British Open champion.

"It was really cool".

Harman said: "I had an opportunity today and I didn't get it done".

In the final round Fleetwood made three bogeys on the front nine and two birdies, and another birdie on the 14th. "I did my best, but I came up a little short".

He surged with his string of birdies starting with the 14th hole, and he controlled the tournament the rest of the way.

"We'll deal with that when we get there but it's going to be a nice experience. We had a great time", Stricker said.

He's not slowing down either. The USGA consistently has conducted it's annual event at a hard course that tests the mental and physical abilities of all the golfers.

He's not sure if his wife, Nicki, will repeat as his caddie next week, though. "But she did well. We just had a lot of fun out there".

He shot a 69 to finish at 1 over for the tournament.

He beat everyone at Erin Hills, and in the end, it wasn't even close.

"Because we played Tuesday practice round together and, I mean, he watched me play".

"Competing in Europe helped me grow up a little bit and really figure out that I could really take this somewhere. Just keep doing what you're doing, you're going to win the thing, and just don't get ahead of yourself", Koepka revealed.

"For some reason I just wanted to get out and go home". He was the only amateur to qualify out of the tough Columbus, Ohio, sectional.

Jordan Spieth, the 2015 U.S. Open victor, closed out his frustrating week by shooting a 3-under 69 to finish 1-over for the tournament.

Fowler, though, refused to view Sunday as a negative, even though he's now 0-for-31 in majors and Sunday was his sixth top-5 finish in a major. When the wind picked up Sunday, Ernie Els thought of another major championship. But he started the day six shots out of the lead.

"So you had to play different shots and the wind is really blustery out there".

This year on the PGA Tour has been a great one overall for Hadwin.

McIlroy finished at 16-under 268 when he won on rain-softened Congressional in the 2011 U.S. Open. He also won the Open in 1994, as well as the British Open in 2002 and 2012.

Three weeks later he took the Scottish Hydro Challenge, and gained automatic membership onto the main European Tour.

That was five years ago, and each went his own way.

But Els seems at peace with where he is at in his career.

"I played two good rounds, but it wasn't enough". If not, it's fine. "So if that doesn't happen, it's been good". Three more top 10 finishes followed, including a tie for fourth at last year's PGA.

After tying for 45th at the Memorial last month, Matsuyama arrived at Erin Hills on a downturn.

"That second shot was unbelievable - that pin is hanging off the back", Koepka said. Mullinax qualified out of the Memphis, Tennessee, sectional.

He ranked fourth in driving accuracy and seventh in distance, a potent combination that he parlayed into 21 birdies, leading the field for greens in regulation while limiting his blemishes to five bogeys. No regrets, I did play well.

Brooks Koepka celebrate after sinking his put on the 18th green during the final round of the US Open at Erin Hills.

There's one more unknown that was left unanswered for now: Will the USGA come back for another U.S. Open at Erin Hills? It featured a silhouette of Palmer in mid-stride, tossing his visor in the air.
