MSP: 2 drown in rural Van Buren Co. lake

"Upon arrival, troopers were flagged down by the caller who advised that two of his friends were fishing on the lake and had yelled to him for help", troopers reported.

Michigan State Police say they were called to Keeler Lake in Van Buren County's Keeler Township shortly after 7:20 p.m.

The caller sent the troopers to the southwest corner of the lake where a capsized boat could be seen about 75-yards from the shore.

Troopers said they used watercraft along the shoreline to recover both victims and bring them to the shore. The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Douglas Charles McIntyre, from Decatur, and 64-year-old Robert E. Novick, from Evergreen Park, Illinois.

CPR was begun as the two were taken to area hospitals but they could not be revived. Their names are being withheld by authorities until families can be notified.
