Louisville's Balado formally named Arkansas State head coach

Louisville assistant coach Mike Balado is set to become Arkansas State's basketball coach.

"He's more than ready to be a head coach", Pitino said of Balado earlier this week. The Red Wolves finished tied for third in the Sun Belt in 2016-17 before bowing out to Louisiana Monroe in the first round of the conference tournament. The press conference will be held on the Arkansas State University campus at the Convocation Center auditorium.

Balado has spent the past four seasons at Louisville, which ended its season Sunday with a 73-69 loss to MI in the NCAA Tournament. He succeeds Grant McCasland, who resigned to coach North Texas.

Balado and Mohajir worked together at Florida Atlantic, where Balado was an assistant from 2005-08. "I just want him to make sure - I don't want him to leave; I want him to stay".

During Balado's four seasons working with head coach Rick Pitino at Louisville, the Cardinals have posted a 106-31 overall record for a.774 winning percentage. "I want to make sure he takes the right job, because certain guys sometimes take the wrong job".
